Lesson Program

The training program at Burkwood Farm is individually designed to best meet the needs of each horse and rider to maximize their potential.  Consistency, patience, and experience are the cornerstones of our training program.

Lessons are offered for ages 4 and up. Adults, it’s never too late to start riding too!

Lessons are 1 hour. For beginners we start with basics such as learning to tack up, parts of the horse and tack, and basic care of our beautiful equine friends. Don't worry, they still get lots of riding time too!

For beginner lessons all you need is jeans and a pair of boots with a heel. We offer clean schooling helmets. If you or your child decide to further your equestrian love we will help get you the right gear to keep riding.

Burkwood Farms has been approved for recognition by the USHJA fort the Recognized Riding Academy Program for the 2020 competition year!

The USHJA Recognized Riding Academy Program acknowledges lesson programs that emphasize horsemanship and sportsmanship, promote safety, and offer introductory hunter/jumper lessons. These programs create a foundation for well-rounded equestrians who benefit the entire sport, and this recognition is designed to continue development and growth of these types of programs across the country.

Burkwood is one of three riding facilities with this recognition in Washington state thus far this year. We want to assure our clients that safety and educational growth is a priority to us.
